Managing
the transition
beyond racing
Commercial greyhound racing has ended in New Zealand. We’re here to manage what comes next – caring for greyhounds, supporting people and responsibly closing the industry.

Our mission
Our work is focused on four outcomes
Greyhounds are cared for and rehomed
Every greyhound is well cared for, well prepared and matched with the right home.
People in the industry are supported
People who have been part of this industry are supported through the end of racing and beyond.
The industry is responsibly closed
As racing ends, the industry’s assets and functions are managed for a smooth, timely and effective wind-down.
The Transition Agency delivers its work and winds down
As the greyhounds are rehomed and outcomes delivered, the Transition Agency scales down and closes.

Greyhounds are cared for and rehomed
We’re bringing experienced greyhound carers, rehoming experts and trusted adoption agencies together, and supporting them with resources, funding and coordination – so every greyhound is well cared for, well prepared and matched with the right home.
People in the industry are supported
This change affects not only the greyhounds, but the people who have been part of this industry.
We are working with key partners to make sure they are supported through the end of racing and beyond.

The industry is responsibly closed
The industry is responsibly closed.
We’re working with the greyhound racing industry to oversee the closure.
